This is in continuation to my Marketing Cloud Consultant Certification blog series and we will discuss “Account Configuration” section here.

The Previous Blog is Marketing Cloud Consultant Certification – Marketing Cloud Connect

If we look at the salesforce certification study guide , Account Configuration has 4 topics with 10% weight.

Account Configuration Topics:

  1. Given a customer scenario, recommend the appropriate Marketing Cloud role based on User Stories.
    • Understand Roles and Permissions in Marketing Cloud
        • User Roles – Permissions stay with the user regardless of business unit
        • Business Unit Roles – Any user working in a business unit acquires the role and permissions of the business unit
      • Individual Role – An individual specifically receives assigned permissions
    • If there is a requirement to give certain permission to some users without creating a custom role, assign a role with least privileges and then enable specific permissions for the user
    • Don’t give Admin privileges to users unnecessarily
    • when you assign multiple roles to an user, the least permission based on the roles gets applied to the user
    • When you  assign a role to a Business Unit,
      • The role gets assigned to all the users in that Business Unit
      • The least permission or restricted permission is applied based on user role and business unit role.
  2. Determine which type of customer scenario warrants the creation of a business unit (I.e. publication types, demographic, workflow processes, organizational structure).
    • Business Units
      • can be used to replicate your organization structure based on
        • Departments
        • Geography
        • Brands
      • are created when you need to control data sharing or visibility between different groups
      • are created when you have multiple brands and chose to have unique branding (ex: Link wrapping for cloud page URL’s, link URL’s, image URL’s etc via SAP) per Brand / Business Unit
      • can share data between different Business Units (Shared Folders)
      • can have a subscriber filter for All Subscribers, so that users can see only their subscribers within All Subscribers list
      • can be configured so that subscribers can opt out either from a single Business Unit or from All Business Units
      • can be created to connect with multiple Salesforce orgs (one per BU using Multi-Org Connector)
  3. Given a scenario, troubleshoot issues regarding Reply Mail Management.
    • Reply Mail Management
      • is part of SAP and processes the replies received for your email communications
      • should be enabled in an org to use it. Initial configuration is done by SFMC Team during SAP configuration.
      • can be configured to route reply for an email send to a specific email address
      • can filter out of office replies and auto replies and delete them
      • can process unsubscribe requests which are sent via email. it should have one of the unsubscribe terms mentioned by Marketing Cloud
      • can use AMPScript to dynamically populate custom reply email address within a sender profile
  4. Analyze the impact of applying Sender Authentication Package (SAP) to a business unit (I.e. link wrapping, Landing Pages, image URLs).
    • SAP consist of following
      • Private Domain (typically a sub domain in email.domainname.com format)
      • Account Branding
        • Link wrapping for cloud pages, image url’s, link url’s etc
        • Brand Builder
      • Dedicated IP Address
        • SFMC allocates a unique IP address for you
        • This needs IP warming
      • Reply Mail Management (refer above section)
    • Refer to section 2 in Marketing Cloud Consultant Certification – Discovery to know more about SAP & Business Units.
